Is Boxing Day bigger than Black Friday in the UK?
Boxing Day has always been the big traditional ‘end of year’ sale in the UK, but it’s definitely been overshadowed by Black Friday in recent years, especially if you’re shopping for cheap electronics. However, Boxing Day is still strong for furniture, appliances and other outlet items, and it’s definitely still worth checking out if you’ve got some post-Christmas pocket money to spend.
Is it better to buy on Boxing Day or Black Friday?
Black Friday tends to be the best option for big-ticket items like laptops or TVs, simply because it’s the earliest sale. Retailers are more likely to post record prices on in-demand items in November, in time for holiday deliveries. If you keep an eye on popular items, like Apple products, you’ll likely find more items in stock ready for a price cut.
All that said, Boxing Day sales are not a waste of cheap electronics. While most of the discounts are likely to be repeats of Black Friday, they will still be (or near) record prices. The Boxing Day and January sales are also a chance to clear out old warehouse stock from big box retailers, so you can expect plenty of new deals – and not just on Boxing Day staples like furniture or appliances.
