Stranger Things season 5 volume 2 (Netflix)
Look
It’s time to return to Hawkins. That’s right, part 2 of stranger things Season 5 has arrived on Netflix, so if you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for?
This is not the end of stranger things‘ main program, either. The eighth and final episode of this season, not to mention the final chapter of the series, will be held back for a later date, so you’ll only be able to watch episodes 5-7 in volume 2. However, each one should be exciting. stranger things 5 continues to wrap up the supernatural horror show’s many lingering plot threads. Let’s hope franchise creators Ross and Matt Duffer move on when the Season 5 finale arrives in the coming days. – T.P.
Ne Zha II (HBO Max)
Look
Forget any Pixar movie in the last 12 months: China Ne Zha II is now the highest-grossing animated film of all time and the highest-grossing non-English film of all time.
But something tells me you’ve never heard of him. Record aside, it’s worth watching on HBO Max. Our young Ne Zha is a boy with uncontrollable power feared by the gods, who has to grow up to become the hero the world needs when humanity finds itself at a crisis point.
As you would expect from a big budget film, the animation is absolutely gorgeous. It’s the perfect film for anyone who has missed the traditional hero arc that is effortlessly infused with non-Western culture. In fact, some people have used the word “masterpiece” to describe this A24 film. – Jasmine Valentine, entertainment reporter
Goodbye June (Netflix)
Look
I won’t beat around the bush – Goodbye June is without a doubt the most heartbreaking movie you will see this Christmas (read my Goodbye June review for more information) and also the most life-affirming ones.
A directorial debut by Kate Winslet with the screenplay written by her son Joe Anders, it is loosely based on Winslet’s loss of her own mother and follows June’s (Helen Mirren) final days in the hospital as her aggressive cancer becomes untreatable. Doting son Connor (Johnny Flynn) and his sisters, the high-strung Julia (Winslet), the internally angry Molly (Andrea Riseborough) and the mercurial expatriate Helen (Toni Colette) spend as much time as they can at their mothers’ bedsides.
It’s a casting I would never have put together, but if they did an ancestry test for ’23 and Me’ and found out they were related, I wouldn’t be surprised. One of the surprisingly accurate feelings of hope and pain from the latest new Netflix movies of 2025 hit me right in the feels, so be warned. – joint venture
Made in Korea (Hulu/Disney+)
Look
Made in Korea is a gripping new crime drama starring Parasiteby Cho Yeo-jeong, and Squid Game Roh Jae-won from season 3, so you can be sure to find him. A stellar cast here.
Set in 1970s South Korea, the Hulu and Disney+ show focuses on the Korean Central Intelligence Agency, as an agent works to secretly control illicit business networks. Meanwhile, an uncompromising prosecutor is working to expose this, making it an exciting game of cat and mouse with many surprises.
The first two episodes were released on Christmas Eve and two more will be out next Wednesday. A second season has already been confirmed, which is promising news. – Lucy Buglass, Senior Entertainment Writer
Bugonia (peacock)
Look
Yorgos Lathimos is back and, for me, it is a Christmas gift. I have loved his work for a long time since Tusk to the lobster, and now his latest feature film Bugonia airs on Peacock.
In it, two young men (Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis) kidnap a powerful CEO (Emma Stone), suspecting that she is secretly an alien who wants to destroy the Earth. This is the typically wacky premise we’ve come to expect from Lathimos, but it’s not one of his original scripts, as he adapted it from the Korean sci-fi film. Save the green planet!
Critics have given Bugonia a healthy 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so why not watch it this weekend? I know I will be. – pound
Chuck’s Life (Hulu)
Look
Come on, let’s include a genuine and enjoyable action movie on this list! Starring Lokiis Tom Hiddleston as Chuck himself, Chuck’s life follows his life backwards… almost like The curious case of Benjamin Button without the strange phenomenon of aging.
His death appears to coincide with some strange apocalyptic activity, but instead of seeing impending doom, we flash back through the joy, laughter, and love in Chuck’s life. Whatever your experience, from heartbreak to happiness, we are with you.
In some ways, it’s a 180 degree turn from what we expect a movie story to offer, and that makes watching it even more refreshing. If you’re an armchair dancer, I guarantee there are some musical numbers that will make you dance too. – joint venture
The Copenhagen test (peacock)
Look
Marvel actor Simu Liu leads the cast of this intriguing new Peacock thriller about an intelligence agent who is hacked and forced to prove his loyalty. All eight episodes will be released tomorrow (December 27), so it’s perfect if you’re in the mood to binge-watch.
Horror fans may be interested to know that the spell and Saw Creator James Wan is the executive producer, so it’s great to see his name attached to something like this.
Right now, plot details are under wraps, but the trailer gives you a small glimpse of what to expect. It has big emotions to come and I can’t wait. – pound
