ISLAMABAD:
DPM/FM Ishaq Dar on Friday expressed deep concern over the recent regional tensions and underlined the importance of dialogue, restraint, reduction of tensions by all parties and sustained diplomatic engagement to achieve lasting peace and stability.
Dar met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) meeting in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic, according to a press release.
The MPD emphasized the need to build on the understandings reached in the June 2026 Islamabad MoU.
Dar also called for the United States and Iran to return to diplomacy based on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, signed by Washington and Tehran in June.
During the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed the close and long-standing ties between Pakistan and Iran and reviewed the evolving regional situation.
Foreign Minister Araghchi appreciated Pakistan’s continued diplomatic support and constructive efforts to promote regional peace and security.
He also thanked Pakistan for facilitating the safe return of Iranian fishermen and crew members, including those from vessels intercepted by the United States, and for its close coordination with Iranian, American and other relevant authorities to ensure their safe transit through Pakistan and return to Iran.
Wang Yi
Dar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi here on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting.
The two leaders had a warm and productive exchange of views on bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation within multilateral forums.
He thanked Yi for appreciating Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional peace and stability, as highlighted during his remarks at the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers.
