UTSA head coach Jeff Traylor nearly had a perfect night in his team’s dominant 57-20 victory over Florida International in the First Responder Bowl at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Friday.
Why wasn’t it a perfect night for Traylor? He couldn’t help but get soaked.
Traylor, 57, knew what was coming as the clock neared its end in the fourth quarter: His players were about to douse him with water. So the head coach headed toward the end of the sideline, hoping to escape the oncoming rain.

The escape attempt was futile when Traylor reached the end of the sideline, turned around and saw receiver Jamel Hardy Jr. coming after him. Traylor was assaulted by a journalist and then left soaked.
In a last-ditch effort to avoid the water, Traylor fell onto the Servpro mat next to the sideline, which ended up being costly. Traylor was harassed by his players and found himself at the bottom of a makeshift dogpile, creating a hilarious scene.

While at the bottom of the dog pile, defensive lineman Kaian Roberts-Day threw another bucket of water at Traylor.
Aside from unsuccessfully evading his players to celebrate, Traylor had a good night. UTSA won handily in its sixth consecutive bowl appearance.

FIU took an early 14-0 lead, but UTSA rallied to tie it at 14 before the first quarter ended, and they never looked back.
UTSA held a 310-93 lead in total yards in the first half. Quarterback Owen McCown threw three touchdown passes and running back Will Henderson III also scored three times.
