The father of NASCAR star Denny Hamlin was identified as the victim killed in a house fire in North Carolina, officials said Monday.
Dennis Hamlin, 75, died from injuries sustained in Sunday’s fire, Gaston County Emergency Medical Services said, via FOX Sports. The driver’s mother, Mary Lou, was taken to a special hospital in Winston-Salem to treat her burns.

Authorities said the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
The fire broke out at a home in Stanley around 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, prompting emergency responses from Gaston and Lincoln counties, according to Queen City News.
Both Dennis and Mary Lou Hamlin were outside the home when emergency personnel responded to the scene.
“We are grateful for the multi-agency response and ask that the public pray for the affected family and our first responders in fire, GEM and police,” the Lucia-Bend Fire Department said in a statement to the outlet.
Dennis Hamlin was listed as a manager for the real estate company that owned the home. Firefighters said the home was a complete loss, as the fire took approximately two hours to extinguish.

The NASCAR world offered its condolences to Hamlin and his family.
Hamlin is a decorated NASCAR driver. He has 60 Cup wins and recently came up short in his quest for a NASCAR championship.

He is co-owner of 23XI Racing, which is based in Huntersville, North Carolina, about 23 miles from Stanley.
