Rawalpindi schools get infrastructure boost

Rawalpindi District Education Authority has carried out record development work in school classrooms over the last six months under the District Education Department.

In the first tranche, funds worth Rs 189.135 million were released for construction of additional classrooms, new toilets and boundary walls in 98 educational institutions across Rawalpindi district.

These include 15 senior secondary schools, 56 secondary schools, 18 primary schools and nine primary schools.

An amount of Rs 133 million was allocated for the construction of 180 new classrooms, while Rs 155 million was transferred to the respective schools for the construction of 127 new toilets. The funds are being used in consultation with school boards and construction work has already begun.

The authority also distributed Rs 7 million as donations among flood-affected people in Muzaffargarh, Multan and Gujrat, along with supply of warm blankets and duvets.

Under the School Teacher Internship Scheme (STI), 364 trainee teachers have been formally appointed, while the recruitment process for another 300 teachers is underway.

In the first phase of rationalization, 564 teachers were transferred to address the staff shortage, followed by the transfer of another 300 teachers in the second phase.

To recognize the performance of teachers, 125 “Hero Teachers” were awarded. Best performance awards were also given to district education officers, deputy DEOs at the tehsil level and one assistant education officer, one man and one woman, from each tehsil. Besides, 13 tehsil coordinators of the secondary wing received awards.

Education Authority CEO Tariq Mahmood transferred administrative staff and Class IV employees to improve office efficiency. Checklists were displayed for all categories of official files and cases for facilitation and awareness purposes.

Formal budget approval orders were issued for 161 cases of collection of outstanding employee leave and 38 cases of family financial assistance for the families of deceased employees. Another 106 license encashment cases and 33 financial assistance cases will be resolved in the near future.
