Several dead in an explosion in the Swiss ski resort of Crans Montana

GENEVA: Several people were killed and others injured when an explosion ripped through a bar in the luxury Alpine resort town of Crans Montana, Swiss police said Thursday morning.

“An explosion of unknown origin has occurred,” said Gaetan Lathion, police spokesman for the canton of Wallis in southwestern Switzerland. AFP.

“There are several injured and several dead.”

He said the explosion took place around 1:30 a.m. (0030 GMT) at a bar called Le Constellation, which is popular with tourists, as revelers celebrated the new year.

Images published by Swiss media showed a building on fire and emergency services nearby.

“The intervention is still ongoing,” he said.
