RAWALPINDI:
Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, said on Friday that her brother had made it clear that he had no other option but to take his plight to international organisations.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Imran in Adiala jail, Aleema Khan said that despite his imprisonment, the PTI founder remained in complete control of the party.
He defended PTI leader Salman Akram Raja amid harsh criticism within the party.
Aleema said the PTI founder had been giving clear instructions on how to handle his social media account. He added that Raja had been nominated by Imran and he did exactly what the party founder had ordered.
“Imran Khan has said that we went to the Islamabad High Court [IHC] and the Supreme Court too, but no one is willing to listen to us. Now we have no choice but to raise our cases internationally. We will go to all international institutions,” Imran quoted.
Speaking about the pending sentence in the £190 million reference, Aleema Khan questioned how Imran Khan could remain in prison when other cases against him had failed in the high court. “Imran Khan says he will face his cases in court and will not make any deal for his release,” he said.
He also criticized the delay in announcing the verdict in the £190m case. “Have they forgotten to write?” he said sarcastically. “Imran’s only crime was providing free education to 250 children,” he added.
He mocked Prime Minister’s advisor Rana Sanaullah’s statement that Aleema had started taking over the PTI. “At least he [Rana] and the establishment are on the same page,” he quipped. “Since February 8, the PTI has not been under anyone’s control, but Imran Khan is running it from jail,” he said.
“PTI founder gives instructions on how to use his twitter [now X] account. This is a great responsibility, we will fulfill it. He [PTI founder] He has no position in the party but directs it from prison. “Everything was decided in Adiala prison and it is still being done,” he added.
Aleema said that they had promised to protect the PTI founder and would bring to light everything that had been done to him. He reported that the prison authorities had restricted access to the founder of the PTI.
talks with the government
On the other hand, speaking to the media, PTI lawyer Shoaib Shaheen said that Imran believed that negotiations should be held with those holding the real power. He added that when the government did not have the authority, “why do they sit with it in negotiations?”
Shaheen said the government claimed the economy had improved, but more than 10 million people fell below the poverty line. The PTI founder, he said, stressed that the rule of law was essential to improve the economy.
“Does it take a year to form a judicial commission for a full investigation into the November 26 incident?” Shaheen questioned, referring to one of the two demands made by the PTI during talks with the government.
The other demand was the release of PTI workers and leaders, including Imran.
When asked further about the talks between the government and the PTI, Shoaib Shaheen said that the spokesperson of “our negotiation committee is Sahibzada Hamid Raza; therefore, Raza talks about what needs to be said regarding the negotiations.” .
