Actor and Monty Python alum John Cleese questioned whether the World Cup should be held in the United States following the shooting death of a woman in Minnesota by an ICE agent.
Renee Good died while driving a vehicle that agents ordered her out of, according to the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Kristi Noem. Good, according to Noem, refused and “attempted to run over and ram them with his vehicle.”
Cleese, however, disagreed with Noem’s version of events.

Cleese shared a post showing ICE arresting a woman in Minneapolis after Good’s death. The actor suggested that FIFA may want to reconsider holding matches in the United States.
“Is it a good idea to hold a major event like the FIFA World Cup in a country where the rule of law no longer exists?” Cleese asked in an X post.
President Donald Trump has threatened to keep the games out of American cities he considers unsafe.
Cleese’s post was shared by tennis legend Martina Navratilova amid dozens of other anti-ICE posts.

Noem said Good’s actions against ICE agents that led to the shooting amounted to a “act of domestic terrorism.”
“One of our officers acted quickly and defensively, firing to protect himself and the people around him,” he said.
Democrats have been quick to present it as an example of unjust violence by the Trump administration.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey told ICE to “get Minneapolis out” during a Wednesday news conference, a sentiment echoed by Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., who also posted on the Department of Homeland Security: “Get out of our city.”

Minnesota Wolves kept a moment of silence for Good before Thursday night’s game. During the moment of silence, a fan present shouted, “Go home, ICE.” Another shouted, “F— ICE,” and cheers broke out.
