- A leaker claims that OnePlus Open 2 and OnePlus 15 could have been canceled
- In both cases, a very similar phone may be sold.
- There’s still a chance we could see a new foldable OnePlus next year
The OnePlus Open was one of the best foldable phones out there when it launched in 2023. And yet, despite receiving high praise from us and elsewhere, we have yet to see a successor, and now it looks like we may not see one for a long time, if ever.
According to Yogesh Brar, a leaker with a generally solid track record, the OnePlus Open 2 has been cancelled, although it’s not entirely clear if that means we simply won’t get it this year or if OnePlus has pulled out of the foldable phone market entirely.
But that’s not the only OnePlus phone that could have been cancelled, because in a response, Brar claimed that there is a 90% chance that the rumored OnePlus 15 has also been cancelled.
It’s not mainstream yet
So why would this be? Well, in the case of the OnePlus Open 2, the company previously claimed that we wouldn’t see this in 2025 because the market wasn’t mainstream enough yet, and that’s arguably still the case now.
That could change soon, as the iPhone Fold is reportedly coming this year and could put foldables in the spotlight, so maybe OnePlus will decide to launch another foldable phone after that, in 2026, but that’s just speculation for now.
The other major reason we might not see the OnePlus Open 2 this year is that, as NotebookCheck points out, OnePlus owner Oppo is planning a global launch for the Find N6, and if there was a OnePlus Open 2, it would probably be little more than a rebranded Find N6 anyway.
So in that case, there would be little need for a OnePlus Open 2, and it could risk eating into sales of a foldable device from OnePlus’ parent company.
As for the OnePlus 15, it probably would have only been sold in India anyway, and would probably be similar to the upcoming OnePlus 15T, so perhaps the company has simply judged that there is no need for two different models that are so similar. However, it remains to be seen whether the 15T will be widely available outside of China.
Of course, we’d still take these cancellation claims with a pinch of salt for now, but be sure to keep an eye out for our list of the best OnePlus phones for any new model.
