Unsurprisingly, fans were quick to pick up on the statement, and a thread on r/StrangerThings turned into a debate about the intricacies of filmmaking and screenwriting.
Meanwhile, on other social media platforms, including X/Twitter, viewer reactions ranged from shock to exasperation.

And that’s not the only thing that has irritated devoted fans of one of Netflix’s best shows.
Around the 45-minute mark, a conversation between the Duffers and their fellow writers reveals that a discussion took place over the final ‘boss battle’ sequence, in which our heroes fought (and defeated) Vecna ββand The Mind Flayer.
Fans have wondered why other creatures, including demogorgons, were not present during the final showdown. Speaking to The Wrap after the finale, the Duffers cited audiences having “show fatigue” as the main reason.

one last adventureHowever, it shows that the writers’ room was divided over his inclusion. “It’s crazy if there’s nothing [else] there, I think,” notes one writer as Matt Duffer agrees with him, before Ross Duffer and another writer respond with the opinion that viewers have had enough of demogorgons, demobats and demodogs.
Once again, some have expressed their displeasure at this development, with an r/StrangerThings thread and other online reactions indicating that sections of the fanbase are not thrilled with the decision-making process.

Perhaps the biggest source of consternation, however, is fans accusing the Duffer brothers of using Reddit and ChatGPT to help them write the final season of the show.
Now, context is important here. There is no evidence that they used this latest artificial intelligence (AI) tool to write stranger things 5The scripts. Meanwhile, the Duffers have previously indicated that they’ve retconned story elements from previous seasons (per Variety), but never explicitly said that Reddit fan theories were the root cause of this.

Once again, however, that hasn’t stopped audience members from jumping to conclusions. A quick X/Twitter analysis of who is arguing one last adventure shows people criticizing Duffers for using ChatGPT, period. Others have done the same in another r/StrangerThings thread, while another discussion topic on the same Reddit page has fans wondering why they have the social media platform open while writing the scripts for season 5.
Of course, there are plenty of fans who defend the Duffers and/or say they’re glad that Netflix, aka one of the best streaming services in the world, gave them a BTS look at the making of one of their favorite TV shows. However, as anyone who uses the Internet regularly will know, negative reactions and fan anger tend to get more attention than more positive responses.
Expect more of the same cynicism and pessimism in the coming days as more people tune into the documentary and express irritation at the content within.
