After almost seven years online, EA officially closed HymnServers forever.
Sometime on January 12, 2026, Hymn The servers have officially gone offline, making BioWare’s 2019 online sci-fi shooter no longer playable for those who own a copy of the game.
Unfortunately, dedicated players who have spent years wandering the world of Anthem as freelancers are being forced to say goodbye, and the good memories, goodbyes, as well as ‘Press F to pay your respects’ memes are now available online.
“For my last team in my last stronghold, it has been an honor,” shared one player in the Hymn subreddit.
“Thank you freelancers. Remember: strong alone. Stronger together,” wrote another.
Many players have also been sharing images of their “final flights” within the game, commemorating their last gaming session. Meanwhile, others, who heard the news that the servers were going down, shared their PlayStation Platinum Trophy achievements after purchasing the game this week.
“All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain.” from r/AnthemTheGame
However, some players remain hopeful that the game may one day return.
“By some, REALLY eager, thinking this game revives one way or another,” said user Renegade888888.
Another Redditor responded, writing: “One thing would be nice if they removed the game to work on version 2.0 because they are remaking the game engine and can’t have it running while they do it. So they just decided to remove it so they can work on it. But yeah, it’s wishful thinking.”
Hymn was released in February 2019 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, but was not successful, unlike other popular BioWare franchises. mass effect and Dragon Age.
EA announced that the game’s servers would shut down on January 12, 2026, last July after “careful consideration,” leaving players with just 180 days of gameplay remaining.
“We deeply appreciate your dedication, passion and support over the years and we would like to thank you for that,” EA said in a blog post at the time. The company also confirmed that HymnThe closure has not led to layoffs.
