Whether you want a reliable backup in the event of a blackout or simply want to reduce your dependence on the electrical grid, there are many excellent power stations that are capable of powering your home. Now there’s another one: Anker Solix E10, a modular home battery system that can be as simple or complex as you need.
Anker sells the Solix E10 as a “hybrid” system, meaning it combines batteries, solar power, and a smart generator in several different combinations. For example, you can easily start with the E10 basic package, which comes with a power module and a battery with a capacity of 6kWh. It’s rated at 7.6kW and will set you back $4,299 (around £3,200 / AU$6,400).
At the other end of the scale is the so-called Infinite Backup Kit, which consists of a power module, two E10 batteries, a power base and a smart generator. This will give you up to 20 kW of power and 24 kWh of capacity between the batteries and generator, and can also withstand surges of up to 66 kW.
The power base allows you to manage up to 12 different home circuits at once, including appliances, single appliances, electronics, and more. With all that extra oomph, you can expect to pay $15,698 (£11,700 / AU$23,500) for the privilege.
A modular power
Since the E10 is a modular system, Anker says you can supplement it with additional battery capacity as needed. That goes up to 90kWh, which is enough for 15 days of backup power, the company claims.
This modularity also extends to the solar aspect. There, you get 9kW per E10 unit and it all works with your existing solar power system, which should make things a little easier if you’re already set up with solar panels.
If there is an outage, the backup power system kicks in. The more expensive E10 kits come with automatic shifting that activates in less than 20 milliseconds, without needing to do anything yourself. More affordable models can be changed, but it must be done manually. Whatever you choose, each E10 module is water and weather resistant, rain or shine.
With all that, you are left with a system that is capable of powering your entire home setup, keeping you connected even when the power goes out. There is also the benefit that the solar aspect can help reduce household bills and dependence on the electricity grid, giving you a little more peace of mind.
Of course, you’ll have to pay a princely sum for all that. Home backup systems like this aren’t cheap, and $15,698 is a lot to spend. But if you’ve got the cash and want to rely a little more on the unpredictability of power, Anker’s Solix E10 might be worth saving up for.
