Oil prices likely to drop by Rs 5.49/litre from January 16

The OMCs estimate cuts in gasoline and diesel prices; OGRA to finalize recommendations as global oil prices fall

ISLAMABAD:

Consumers are likely to enjoy relief in oil prices from January 16, 2026. Prices of petroleum products may reduce up to Rs 5.49 per liter during the fortnight starting January 16, following a fall in global oil prices.

The estimates are based on the current petroleum tax (PL) and customs sales tax (CSL) on petroleum products. Currently, the government charges Rs 82.12 per liter (PL+CSL) for petrol and Rs 77.91 per liter for high speed diesel (HSD). According to estimates by oil marketing companies, a decline of Rs 4.59 per liter is expected in petrol prices. Another drop of Rs 2.70 per liter is expected in HSD prices. Similarly, a reduction of Rs 1.82 per liter is estimated for kerosene, while light diesel fuel (LDO) may see a cut of Rs 2.08 per liter. The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and relevant ministries will prepare their recommendations on January 15 and send them to the Petroleum Division, which will announce the final prices of petroleum products on the same day, taking into account the budgeted targets for the current fiscal year for PL and CSL.

According to estimates, the price of petrol may fall from Rs 253.17 to Rs 248.58 per litre, while the price of HSD may drop from Rs 257.08 to Rs 254.38 per litre. Similarly, the price of kerosene is expected to drop from Rs 170.88 to Rs 169.06 per litre, and that of LDO from Rs 146.18 to Rs 144.10 per litre.
