Kiefer Sutherland arrested for assaulting a driver

Kiefer Sutherland was taken into police custody in Los Angeles after an alleged confrontation with a rideshare driver, according to authorities.

The incident occurred early Monday morning near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood, where officers were called to reports of an alleged assault involving a rideshare vehicle.

The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the suspect was later identified as Sutherland.

Police allege that the actor entered the rideshare vehicle, physically assaulted the driver and then criminally threatened the victim.

Officers arrested Sutherland at the scene on suspicion of criminal threats. LAPD noted that the alleged victim did not suffer any injuries that required medical attention.

Court documents obtained by Page six show that the 24-year-old star was arrested and booked on Monday, with bail set at $50,000.

He was released that same day at 11:30 p.m. local time. Sutherland is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. NBC 4 News in Los Angeles was the first to report the arrest.

This is not the first time the actor has faced legal problems.

In September 2007, Sutherland was charged with driving while intoxicated in Los Angeles after failing a field sobriety test. He later pleaded no contest to the DUI charge and was sentenced to 48 days in jail.

At that time he was released on bail.

Sutherland also previously faced assault charges following a 2009 incident in New York involving fashion designer Jack McCollough following a Metropolitan Museum of Art fundraiser.

The charges were eventually dropped after both sides issued a joint statement.

“I am sorry for what happened that night and I am truly sorry that Mr. McCollough was hurt,” Sutherland said at the time. McCollough responded: “I appreciate Mr. Sutherland’s statement and wish him the best.”

The last few years have been personally difficult for the actor. His father, legendary actor Donald Sutherland, died in 2024 at age 88, and Kiefer called him “one of the most important actors in film history.”

More recently, Sutherland reflected on memorable moments from his career while appearing on a television special, sharing stories from his time working with Rob Reiner and Jack Nicholson.

The case involving the rideshare driver is now moving through the legal system, and Sutherland’s next court date is expected to determine the next steps.
