Timothy Busfield, whose whereabouts are still unknown, surrendered to police.
“Tim voluntarily appeared before New Mexico authorities after traveling across the country to confront these false and deeply disturbing allegations,” his attorney, Stanton “Larry” Stein, said in a statement obtained by people magazine.
Previously, on January 13, the actor and director turned himself in at the Metro Detention Center, Gilbert Gallegos, Communications Director of the Albuquerque Police Department, told the media.
Busfield, Melissa Gilbert’s husband, faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct with two minor children and one count of child abuse.
According to the arrest warrant, the alleged victim’s twins met Busfield on the set of Fox series, The cleaning ladyafter Busfield joined as director in season 2 (which aired in 2022).
“He is innocent and determined to clear his name,” Stein continued. “As reflected in the criminal complaint, after her son was fired from the program, the boy’s mother vowed to ‘get revenge on Timothy Busfield.’ What followed appears to be a calculated effort to build a case, driven by animosity rather than facts, even though previous investigations found no evidence of wrongdoing.”
Busfield’s attorney also provided the outlet with a statement from Christina McGovern, the independent outside investigator who was hired by Warner Bros. Television to examine allegations of on-set misconduct.
“I conducted an independent and thorough investigation into all allegations known to the studio at the time,” McGovern’s statement read.
“Warner Bros. gave me complete discretion regarding my investigation. Based on what was alleged and all the evidence gathered, including multiple witness statements, I found no corroborating evidence that Mr. Busfield engaged in inappropriate conduct or that he was ever alone with the twins on set.”
“The allegations being made against Tim are completely false and we will fight this to the end until the truth prevails,” Stein added.
Previously, Busfield refuted all allegations about him according to a video obtained by TMZ. The actor stated in the video that “he didn’t do anything wrong.”
“Hi everyone, I’m Tim,” the video began. “I’m sure most of you who are watching this know that I was ordered to come to Albuquerque; I’m here now. I got the call Friday night, I had to get a lawyer. On Saturday I got in the car and drove 2,000 miles to Albuquerque. I’m going to face these lies. They are horrible.”
“They’re all lies and I didn’t do anything to those little kids and I’m going to fight it,” Busfield continued. “I’m going to fight with a great team and I will be exonerated, I know, because all of this is very wrong and it’s a lie.”
“So hang in there and I hope to get out very soon and get back to work,” Busfield concluded. “I love everyone for supporting me, thank you.”
