Currently, 55 universities offer bachelor’s degrees; Initiative to save students from high university fees

The Sindh government is set to introduce four-year Bachelor of Studies (BS) programs in 164 additional public universities across the province, a move aimed at expanding access to higher education at affordable costs and closer to students’ homes.
Under this initiative, students will be able to pursue degrees in disciplines such as Science, Commerce, Arts and Computer Science at nearby public universities at significantly lower fees, eliminating the need to travel long distances to universities.
To promote higher education and provide quality academic opportunities at the local level, the Sindh Department of Universities has initiated concrete measures to extend four-year degree programs to universities. Applications have been sent to selected government universities affiliated with various public universities.
Of the 376 public universities operating in Sindh, 164 have formally applied for university affiliation to launch degree programmes. The central objective of this policy is to ensure that a greater number of students can access undergraduate education within their own cities and districts.
Speaking to The Express PAkGazette, Sindh Universities Secretary Nadeemur Rehman said that 55 universities in the province already offer four-year degree programs under university affiliation. During the current year, five more universities have been granted affiliation in Karachi, bringing the total to 60. He added that approvals for degree programs in another 159 colleges are expected soon, and affiliations of additional universities are also in the pipeline.
