ISLAMABAD:
The National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi, has been entrusted with conducting the National Registration Examination (NRE) to ensure credibility, integrity and transparency, according to a press release issued here on Thursday.
The NRE for Foreign Medical Graduates (FMG) is a mandatory requirement under an Act of Parliament and is designed to promote transparency, standardization and quality in medical and dental education as well as professional practice in Pakistan.
The NRE is a two-step exam taken at least twice a year, in accordance with the approved NRE standards, structure and curriculum. NUMS has been conducting the exam for the last two years and is responsible for drafting the document, compiling and declaring the final results.
According to the press release, the exam is conducted based on a syllabus equivalent to MBBS and BDS programs in Pakistan. He said Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has no direct role in developing documents, conducting exams or preparing results for NRE.
