X was down: this is what happened in the last outage

X seems to be back for most

Fortunately, it looks like today’s X outage is only a short-lived issue – the site is working fine for us and reports on Downdetector drop to around 6,000 in the US and only around 1,000 in the UK.

There has been no official explanation for what happened on the official X account, and it’s unlikely we’ll get one now given that the issues lasted barely an hour. Let the memes begin again…

Down Detector reports are also steadily falling, currently sitting at less than 8,000 reports as of 11:02 a.m. ET. Let us know in the comments below if you can access X again and see more recent posts.

Considering that many of the posts appearing on our timelines are over an hour ago, or in some cases longer, it appears that X is catching up and is in recovery mode.

On the desktop here in the US, X appears again for me, with the timeline loading and the trending topics on the side, showing fairly recent posts. The first post is less than an hour old, but it’s a little slow to access different aspects of the site.

Reports from Down Detector show that this is likely the case for many: X dropped, causing the initial spike, recovered slightly, and then struggled again. As of the last update at 10:42 am ET, there are over 53,000 reports of problems using X.

Interestingly, my colleague Lance Ulanoff was able to post, but it took a while for it to appear on his profile.

While X was inactive for me initially, it came back and then disappeared again. And it looks like that’s the case as of now for many of my TechRadar colleagues in both the US and UK: they still can’t get X to load in its entirety, with the timeline not loading and the trend terms on the side.
