Dreame started life as a robotic vacuum cleaner brand, before adding other air-focused appliances such as handheld vacuum cleaners and hair dryers to its roster. It’s only been around since 2017/18, but in that time it has established itself as a major player in these markets – ranking highly in both my best cordless vacuum cleaners and best robotic vacuum cleaners rankings.
So I was excited to see what Dreame would showcase at CES 2026. I was hoping for a new robot vacuum, maybe some innovative air purifiers. What I didn’t expect was for Dreame to announce her entrance literally in every corner of the house. I’m not exaggerating: if you can think of an appliance, Dreame now has one in its line.
The vision, according to the press release, is to evolve from “a standalone smart device brand to a comprehensive connected lifestyle provider with an ecosystem that now covers home, garden, outdoors and on the go.” Its motto is “All dreams in one dream”, which makes no sense.
Too far, too soon?
I’ve tried several Dreame devices and have almost always been impressed, but I’m wary of this latest expansion. It all seems too fast and too far-reaching to have been done with the necessary care and expertise. The difficulty I have had in obtaining information on the individual products I was most interested in has not reassured me any more.
Previously, Dreame’s category expansions made sense. For example, there is a crossover between the mechanics of a vacuum cleaner and that of a hair dryer. I can see how a brand that knows its way around a robot vacuum could also make a great robot lawnmower.
But I struggle to see how those skills could translate to coffee machines or televisions, both categories that are very specific and require specialized knowledge and skills to excel. The same goes for things like smartwatches and action cameras.
Of course, I haven’t tried any of the new devices yet; I’ve only seen them displayed and in demonstrations, which is not a reliable way to judge any product. The proof will be in the tests and I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
