PESHAWAR:
After a catastrophic brake failure, a trailer hit several vehicles, including a bus, in Karak district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Saturday, killing at least twelve people.
According to Karak deputy commissioner, the incident took place on the Indus Highway near Ambiri Kallay chowk. “The incident occurred due to a failure in the trailer’s brakes. The truck, after losing control, collided with several vehicles on the road,” he said.
Police feared the number of victims would increase. The road rescue and relief operation was underway and the rescuers were still busy removing the injured and dead from the bus. They said thirteen people were injured in the tragedy.
KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi took notice of the road accident and sought detailed information. The governor ordered the health department to provide all possible assistance to the injured.
Kundi also directed Red Crescent teams to carry out relief activities and urged PPP workers to participate in relief efforts in Ambiri Kallay and donate blood.
According to reports, Samiullah, the trailer driver from Lakki Marwat district, has been arrested injured. The injured driver is currently undergoing treatment in hospital. The main road has been reopened to restore traffic flow.
