Pixel phones are believed to be designed to last longer than other Android phones, but a problematic battery issue has drawn the ire of many Pixel users. Fortunately, Google is addressing the battery longevity issue of Pixel smartphones.
The battery life of Pixel phones is considered a crucial aspect for users as most of them opt for Pixel devices in the long run.
As reported by Android Authority, many Pixel owners have reported battery performance degrading over time, with notable declines after just a few months of regular use.
Despite Google’s promise of resilience and the promise of seven years of software updates for Pixel phones, users often complain that the battery doesn’t live up to expectations.
Reports indicated that after about nine months, devices like the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro are struggling to hold a charge, especially when using demanding apps.
New EU Android battery regulations
To address this, Google has patented a new battery design that aligns with new European regulations requiring removable and replaceable batteries in wearable devices by February 2027.
This design eliminates the need for adhesives, which typically complicate battery replacement and pose safety risks.
Instead, the new EU rules recommend mounting the battery inside a rigid metal chassis, to allow users to easily access and replace the battery without specialized tools.
This approach not only improves the repairability of the Pixel phone but also preserves the phone’s structural integrity and waterproofing.
If implemented in future Pixel models, such as the anticipated Pixel 12 series, users could enjoy extended life from their devices by simply changing the battery every few years.
