New research from Randstad has claimed that Gen Z workers are the most concerned about AI displacing human roles, despite being stronger users; while, on the contrary, Boomers feel more confident in adapting to new trends in the workplace.
Overall, four in five workers expect AI to impact their daily tasks in some way, but about half (47%) believe AI will benefit employers more than employees.
One in five also expressed that they feel their work is immune to AI, but the need to prepare and adapt is evident.
Two-thirds (65%) agreed they need to improve their skills or risk being left out, but whose responsibility it is remains a hotly debated issue. Half (52%) have taken upskilling into their own hands.
Randstad also discovered trends in the labor market, with positions requiring AI agent skills up 1,587% in 2025. Demand for rapid engineering (+403%) and AI trainers (+247%) also increased.
“Labor markets are under immense pressure and it will be those who adapt who will succeed,” wrote CEO Sander van ‘t Noordende.
The data also shows companies how they can attract and retain talent by appealing to workers with good salaries and work-life balance.
Additionally, the human touch remains crucial for all workplaces. About three-quarters learn social skills from older colleagues (78%) or learn technology and AI skills from younger colleagues (72%).
“However, human connection remains critical for organizations, and managers are taking on an increasingly important role in maintaining stability during the Great Workforce Adaptation,” van ‘t Noordende added.
