- Everest ransomware group leaked 72.2 million Under Armor accounts after failed negotiations
- The data includes names, emails, dates of birth, purchase history and possibly loyalty program details.
- Under Armor remains silent; Class Action Lawsuit Filed on Behalf of Affected Customers
Online chatter has claimed that Under Armor suffered a major ransomware attack and data breach, but so far, the sports apparel giant is staying mum.
Have I been fooled? (HIBP), a free online service that allows people to check if their email address or phone number appeared in known data breaches, said it added 72.2 million accounts stolen in a recent Under Armor breach.
Under Armor has neither denied nor confirmed the violation and has remained silent: its dedicated writing site, as well as its social media, make no mention of the incident.
Suspected Under Armor hack
The attack allegedly occurred in November 2025 and was carried out by a veteran ransomware operator named Everest. The group first attempted to negotiate with Under Armor to get paid for the data, but after negotiations failed, the group leaked the stolen files on the dark web.
After circulating around the dark web, that data has now arrived at HIBP, which says the batch includes people’s names, email addresses, dates of birth, genders, locations and purchase history.
Everest, on the other hand, says the data also includes phone numbers, postal addresses, loyalty program details and preferred stores.
While the magnitude of the breach definitely seems enormous, CyberInsider states that the majority of the emails (76%) were already present in HIBP, having been exposed in previous breaches. This would mean that the chances of phishing attacks for most would remain more or less constant, but new findings could make emails more personalized and therefore harder to detect.
Maybe the retailer didn’t pay the attackers, but most likely it will have to pay its customers. The Registry reported that law firm Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith filed a proposed class action lawsuit on behalf of Under Armor client Orvin Ganesh.
