- Two new Insta360 cameras have been detected
- These models have been mocked by the CEO of Insta360.
- There is much speculation about what they might be.
We have Insta360 to thank for some of the best action cameras in the business, as well as several other innovative devices, and it looks like we have a couple more cameras from the company to look forward to in the near future.
Insta360 CEO Jingkang Liu took to Chinese social media site Weibo (via PetaPixel) to share a teaser image, along with the caption “go to new focus segment.” That seems like a nearby camera to us.
As The New Camera points out, there are actually two unknown cameras in this image: the camera we can see used to frame a photo and a second camera that is visible through the viewfinder of the first.
We’re pretty used to rumors, teases, and hints about Insta360 products at this stage, but this is sort of a hybrid combination of an official reveal and a product leak that we don’t see often, and we’re pretty intrigued about what it might be pointing to.
Camera detection
The first camera in this image, the one used to frame and take a photo, is unlike anything Insta360 currently makes. PetaPixel speculates that it could be a fixed-lens compact camera similar to a Canon PowerShot.
We can see some controls around the side of the viewfinder, including buttons to switch between video and photo modes, and a playback button to review videos and photos captured by any camera.
As for the second camera that the mystery first camera is taking a picture of, The New Camera suggests that it is a pocket vlogging camera similar to the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 (with the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 waiting in the wings).
The latter camera is probably closer to release – perhaps in February or March – while the compact digital camera may still be in the prototype stage. It looks like it won’t be long before we have more Insta360 cameras to enjoy.
