The Pakistan Navy on Saturday carried out successful medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan citizen on the high seas, approximately 1,500 kilometers off the coast of Pakistan.
A navy statement said PNS ships Tabuk and Moawin successfully carried out the medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan national requiring “urgent medical attention” on an Indonesian-flagged Gray Palm Merchant Vessel (MV).
“The operation began after a formal request from [the] Sri Lanka Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC) for [the] providing medical assistance to a critically ill Sri Lankan national crew member aboard the MV Gray Palm, located 800 nautical miles (approximately 1,500 kilometers) off the coast of Pakistan,” the statement said.
The Pakistan Navy sent its ships as rescuers and evacuated the crew member from Sri Lanka along with an assistant, he said. Subsequently, the patient immediately received the necessary treatment on board the Navy ship, he added.
“Sri Lankan authorities and the individual’s family thanked Pakistan for [the] prompt response and support,” the statement said.
