RAWALPINDI:
The Punjab Provincial Government has approved financial assistance under the Ramazan Nigehban Relief Package to include families living below the poverty line, poor middle class and low-paid employees in the joys of Ramazan and Eidul Fitr.
Instructions have been issued for province-wide registration of eligible beneficiaries for the online Ramadan package.
Registration can be done both online and through the offices of the Union Council, as well as in all the offices of municipal corporations and local organizations.
A total of Rs 30 billion has been allocated for the Ramazan Nigehban relief package.
This year, utility shops were abolished across Punjab and the system of supplying subsidized goods through utility shops was suspended. Similarly, no official Ramadan bazaars will be established.
However, in places where weekly bazaars are held on Sundays and Fridays, traders will set up low-cost facilitation markets on a self-help basis.
The relief amount under the Ramazan Nigehban package will be disbursed through Punjab Bank. After scrutiny, beneficiaries whose registration is finalized will be issued ATM cards, through which they can withdraw financial assistance during Ramadan.
The online portal has been activated and all Assistant Commissioners will directly supervise the process.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Hasan Waqar Cheema has called an important meeting on the Ramazan Nigehban package later this week, which will be attended by heads of all relevant departments.
