Inflation soars as Ramadan approaches

As Ramadan approaches, prices of gram flour, wheat flour, rice, white gram, pulses, fruits and refined flour in the open market have risen up to Rs 1,500 per maund, while alarm bells have been raised over a second round of price hikes during the current week.

The price of a 79 kg bag of flour and refined flour has increased by Rs 1,350, gram flour, rice and white chickpeas by Rs 1,050 per maund and red beans by Rs 950 per maund.

In the open market, chicken meat is sold at Rs 680 per kg, eggs at Rs 360 per dozen, mutton at Rs 2,400-2,500 per kg, beef at Rs 1,350-1,450 per kg, chickpea flour at Rs 400 per kg, rice at Rs 400 per kg, fine white chickpeas at Rs 390 per kg, thick white chickpeas at Rs 430 per kg. kg, fine red beans at Rs 410-415 per kg, coarse red beans at Rs 500 per kg and lentil mash at Rs 550 per kg.
