Nipah virus warning issued


KARACHI:

Following reports of Nipah virus cases in India, the Sindh Director General of Health issued an advisory urging health authorities to remain alert and take preventive measures.

According to the Sindh Health Department, the situation is being closely monitored.

The advisory urges all public and private hospitals to remain on high alert and strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Federal Ministry of Health.

Health officials have clarified that no case of Nipah virus has been reported in Pakistan so far.

The advisory describes Nipah virus as a deadly zoonotic disease that can be transmitted to humans. Initial symptoms include fever, headache, cough, body aches, and vomiting. Medical experts warn that the virus can cause severe respiratory illness and encephalitis (inflammation of the brain).
