ISLAMABAD:

The government on Saturday increased high speed diesel (HSD) prices by Rs 11.30 per liter, keeping the price of petrol unchanged in line with fluctuations in global oil prices, effective February 1 (today).

According to a notification, the government maintained oil prices. The government revised the prices following the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the statement said.

As per the revised prices, high-speed diesel will be sold at Rs 268.38 per liter, against the previous rate of Rs 257.08 per liter that came into effect from January 16, 2026.

In contrast, the price of motor petrol, commonly known as petrol, has remained at the current price of Rs 253.17 per litre. Petrol was priced at Rs 253.17 per liter during the previous fortnight and will remain at the same level.

High-speed diesel is widely used in transportation, agriculture and industry, while motor gasoline is mainly consumed in private vehicles and motorcycles. Therefore, the increase in the price of high-speed diesel will have an impact on the life of the common man.

However, gasoline users on motorcycles and cars will continue to enjoy the current rate.

On January 15, the federal government left oil product prices unchanged.

The unchanged prices were due to increase in petroleum tax on petrol by Rs 4.62 per liter and Rs 0.80 per liter on high-speed diesel. Together, taxes on oil and carbon now add up to Rs 87 on petrol and Rs 79 on diesel.

The federal government reportedly collected Rs 828 billion in oil taxes against the budgeted Rs 1.4 trillion in the first six months (July-December) of the current fiscal year. The estimate of PL 1.47 trillion is higher than the PL 1.16 trillion budgeted in the previous fiscal year.

The OGRA also announced an increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices by Rs 6.37 per kg in an advisory issued on Saturday.

The authority stated that LPG prices have increased by Rs 6.37 per kilogram, affecting both 11.8 kg domestic cylinders and commercial consumers who rely heavily on the fuel for cooking and heating, as several parts of the country face shortage of gas in the system.

Following the revision, the price of an 11.8 kg domestic LPG cylinder increased by Rs 75.21, setting the new retail price at Rs 2,667.40 for February, as against Rs 2,592.19 in the previous month.

The OGRA notification said that the updated price per kilogram is now Rs 266.05, while warning distributors and retailers not to charge higher rates than the officially notified prices.

The regulator said strict action would be taken against those violating pricing regulations after receiving complaints about excessive charges in several markets.

The LPG producer price is linked to Saudi Aramco-CP and the US dollar exchange rate. Compared to the previous month, Saudi Aramco-CP increased by 3.30 percent, while the average dollar exchange rate decreased by 0.14 percent.
