Carlos Alcaraz made history on Sunday when he beat Novak Djokovic 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 to win the 2026 Australian Open in Melbourne.

Alcaraz, 22, became the youngest tennis player to complete a career Grand Slam. The Australian Open was the last tournament on his list. Previously they had not made it past the quarterfinals. But all that changed against Djokovic.

“Job finished. 4/4 complete,” Alcaraz wrote on the television camera lens.

Alcaraz needed to bring out some of his usual magic to beat Djokovic. The two had a handful of long rallies in which the Spaniard had to dig deep into his pocket to score points. Alcaraz converted five of the 16 break points. Djokovic was two for six.

He thanked his support team for helping him get through the tournament with a Grand Slam victory to start the 2026 season. He parted ways with former coach Juan Carlos Ferrero at the end of last season and Samuel López took the reins.

“No one knows how hard I have worked to get this trophy. I chased this moment a lot,” Alcaraz said.

“We just did the right job, you pushed me every day to do all the right things,” he added. “I’m really grateful for everyone I have by my side right now.”
