- Nothing confirms that “it will ‘double down’ in the over-ear headphones category during 2026”
- Leaks say a budget model is coming and could launch on March 12 for £149/€159 (about $200/AU$300)
- I hope they imitate the traditional bland design of budget headphones
If you love dressing up as classic sci-fi characters from the 60s, you probably know the Nothing Headphone (1), whose first ears from the British brand look like the headdress of a Cyberman costume.
We know Nothing has more headphones on the way, because the company itself confirmed it, saying, “Nothing will ‘double down’ on the over-ear headphones category during 2026.” And new leaks suggest that specifically a cheaper version is on the way, and based on my experience with Nothing’s affordable headphones, it wouldn’t take much to make them some of the best budget headphones.
Reliable technology filter Billbil-kun (via Notebookcheck) has shared a lot of information about what he says will be called the Nothing Headphone (a), just like the Nothing Ear (a) is Nothing’s cheapest headphones.
🚨 NEW RELEASE 🚨 The upcoming Nothing headphones should arrive with a surprisingly low launch price 🎧 Nothing Headphone (a) Preview the latest details including: 💶 Prices in EUR and GBP 📅 Release date ⏲️ Pre-order schedule and announcements https://t.co/UNyYxQoTGGFebruary 1, 2026
Here’s the summary of the leak: The headphones (a) will be released on March 12, 2026, after being announced on March 5, which is when we also got a look at the Nothing Phone (4a).
They will apparently sell for £149 / €159 (which converts to around $200, AU$300). They are said to come in white, black, pink or yellow, the latter of which is expected to come close to the Ear(a)’s vibrant look.
That’s all, other than Billbil-kun shooting down a previous rumor from another source. This suggested that the earpiece (a) could be a redesigned earpiece (1), but made of plastic instead of aluminum. Apparently the low price means this is unlikely.
A chance to fix a divisive Nothing Headphones feature (1)
One of the aspects that caught the most attention of the original Nothing Headphone (1) was its appearance; We ourselves list “eyes divide” as a ‘scam’ in our review. And whether you like the look or not, it’s hard to disagree that it makes the headphones look pretty… unique.
Will the headphones (a) keep the design? Well, I test cheap over-ear headphones all the time (I have two on my desk right now that I’m testing) and one common trait between all of them is that they have incredibly generic designs.
The vast majority I have tried are simply two black spots connected by a black band. Sure, it’s boring, but the money brands save on original can design is passed on to the consumer.
I hope Nothing Headphone (a) follows suit. Save the distinctive look for people who want high-end cans and let us people on a budget enjoy something a little more understated. After all, the feature set and sound quality are still the Nothing’s strongest features, and that’s what we’d like to see conveyed to the headphones(a).
That being said, it’s definitely nice if they come with an original yellow finish.
I enjoyed the Nothing Ear so much that I wrote an entire love letter to its test listen, and I previously mentioned the Ear(a) as one of the best cheap headphones I’ve tested. On the contrary, the design has been Nothing’s weak point in the past, and the Nothing Ear (open) remains one of the worst open headphones I’ve used.
Of course, most of the “cheap” headphones I test cost about half the leaked price of Nothing Headphone (a), but there’s still a good chance Nothing will tone it down for the budget crowd. Doing so could make them must-buys. However, we will have to wait for the announcement to find out; Mark March 5 on your calendars.
