- Sonic Audio in-wall sound systems have been in development for four years
- The Slovenian firm has distribution agreements in 18 countries; says UK and Australia ‘arriving soon’
- Prices for the H2O model start at $4,472, but you can ‘design your own’
Do you remember in chemistry class when you learned to draw a water molecule because it had one oxygen atom and two hydrogen atoms, joined by strong polar covalent bonds?
I can still hear my science teacher yelling “Remember! Covalent bonds are happy bonds”, and I would certainly be ‘happy’ if I could install Flora 5 (main image) and H2O (pictured below) on several featured walls in my home.
What you’re looking at is Molecule, a modular, wall-mounted hi-fi sound system made by Slovenian audio specialist Ultrasonic Audio, after almost four years of research and development.
Its creators say it can consist of up to 10 active speakers and a power unit, connected in a user-defined pattern (Mother Nature isn’t good enough for you, eh?) and the company will be happy to ask you to “design your own” on its site, which is fun. After that, you can request a quote for your creation, which may not be as fun.
Great chemistry
The Molecule sound system is, its creators say, designed to “create a balance between visual aesthetics and high-fidelity audio.”
The finishing materials are largely natural (copper and Slovenian walnut or American walnut wood) and you can choose between large speakers (depth: 108 mm; diameter: 350 mm; weight 3.5 kg) and small speakers (depth: 108 mm; diameter: 300 mm; weight 3 kg), as well as power units, dividers and large and small connecting tubes in copper with the option of a lighter or darker patina.
In addition to the Molecule power unit’s two RCA connectors and a 3.5mm jack, there’s also built-in Bluetooth, for simply sending audio to your Molecules from your phone.
How much is all this going to cost then? Well, for the relatively bijou H2O model, prices start from $4,472 (which would be around £3,270 or AU$6,382 before any tariffs), but there’s scalability here. It is hard to overlook the potential of this system to go a lot bigger: I’m thinking ‘huge wall of sound’ setups…

The best stereo speakers for all budgets.
