- Xcode 26.3 RC now has AI agent support; full release coming soon
- Anthropic Claude Agent and OpenAI Codex are fully integrated
- Xcode capabilities are also available through MCP
Apple has announced a major update as part of Xcode 26.3 that brings more powerful AI coding to the platform, including agent AI to automate some of the tasks that need less human supervision.
The IDE, which was created by Apple specifically to develop applications for Apple products, now supports Anthropic’s Claude Agent and OpenAI’s Codex directly within the interface.
Xcode already had some limited ChatGPT and Claude integration, but version 26.3 deepens this by giving agents access to more Xcode tools natively.
Xcode gets an agent update
In an announcement, Apple described how AI agents can be used to write and modify code, create projects, run tests, detect bugs, and find the latest documentation for Apple developers, which could make it easier to overcome obstacles that already exist in ensuring that apps comply with the iPhone manufacturer’s guidelines and standards.
The company even worked with third parties to maximize token usage and ensure efficient performance and lower running costs. And for maximum interoperability (a new and very welcome trend in Big Tech), Apple is also making Xcode capabilities available through the MCP industry standard.
“Agent coding boosts productivity and creativity, streamlining the development workflow so developers can focus on innovation,” wrote global vice president of developer relations Susan Prescott.
For the end user, a drop-down menu allows you to choose your preferred model version between the two AI companies. Initial setup is required to link accounts.
Xcode 26.3 is currently available as a release candidate to members of the Apple Developer Program, with general availability set “soon.”
