Dutch authorities have reportedly seized one of Windscribe’s VPN servers.
The VPN provider reported the events in a post on X on Thursday, arguing that law enforcement acted “without a court order.” The post includes a photo showing the missing servers.
Windscribe Server is Blocked: What We Know
It’s still unclear why police broke into Windscribe’s servers. Windscribe says authorities confiscated a regular VPN node and told Windscribe they would return it after “fully analyzing it.”
In In another tweet, Windscribe confirmed that this is not an isolated incident.
“We get a handful of requests from authorities every month. And each time we tell them we have no logs. This time, they didn’t ask; they just pulled the server out of the rack to look for the logs themselves. Unfortunately for them, there are still no logs,” the company wrote.
Windscribe servers run on RAM only, meaning any stored data is instantly deleted once the server is shut down or restarted.

However, John Scott-Railton, senior security researcher at Citizen Lab, points out that RAM-only servers are not a bulletproof solution.
“I don’t know anything else about this case, but please note that hotplugs that allow authorities to take over a server without cutting power are common,” Scott-Railton wrote in a tweet. He argued: “Commercial VPNs” are not the right tools for people who need strong privacy protections.

The need for a no-logs VPN
The Windscribe server seizure is yet another example of why choosing a VPN service with strict no-logging policy and RAM-only servers is very important.
A no-logs VPN ensures that even in the event of a cyberattack or law enforcement request, the company simply has no identifiable user data to reveal or lose.
A RAM-only infrastructure is the hardware-level guarantee that the servers, even if the company were to change their policy, technically cannot store any logs.
Mullvad VPN proved its famous no-logs claim in 2023 following an inconclusive police raid.
The same year, Greek authorities charged Windscribe co-founder and CEO Yegor Sak in connection with an alleged crime committed by an anonymous user. This sparked a lengthy legal battle that ultimately saw the case dismissed for lack of evidence in April 2025.
While it is unclear how the latest developments in the Netherlands will play out, Windscribe’s track record suggests the company remains committed to protecting user privacy, even as it faces pressure in court.
