Law enforcement agencies from Seattle to New England are spreading public safety messages for Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, as authorities prepare for large crowds and increased traffic on the roads.

State and local agencies said additional patrols and DUI checkpoints will be implemented throughout the day and night, and officers will urge fans to plan sober trips home and celebrate responsibly.

The Seattle Police Department posted a video on Facebook warning fans against unsafe behavior that could turn Super Bowl Sunday into a trip to jail or the hospital.

“Whether it’s alcohol, cannabis or any substance that impairs your ability to drive, getting behind the wheel puts lives at risk, including your own,” the department said.

Boston police are also urging Super Bowl weekend revelers to remain alert to the risk of spikes in drinks, warning that colorless, odorless drugs can be introduced into drinks and leave victims vulnerable to serious harm.

NBC 10 Boston reported that parking and traffic restrictions will be implemented Sunday in several university and nightlife neighborhoods, including Kenmore Square, Boston University and areas near North Station and Faneuil Hall.

The station said pedestrian access could also be limited from 8 p.m. local time to avoid crowding and reduce conflicts between pedestrian traffic and vehicles.

Bars will be prohibited from admitting new customers after the third quarter to help curb post-game congestion.

“It’s just so there’s not so much chaos. Whether they win or lose, everyone likes to run in and out throughout the game,” said Gabby Wooten, general manager of Bleacher Bar.

In neighboring New Hampshire, just north of the Boston metropolitan area, state highway safety officials are urging Super Bowl fans to report suspected drunk drivers to 911.

The New Hampshire Office of Highway Safety said the warning follows the arrests of 25 people on drunk driving-related charges across the state during last year’s Super Bowl weekend.

“This Sunday is not just about the game, it’s about taking care of each other,” said New Hampshire Department of Safety Deputy Commissioner Eddie Edwards. “If you celebrate with friends or family who plan to drink or use substances, check how they will get home.”
