Cher has shared a painful memory from her teenage years in her new memoir, and now she’s talking about it with a calmer mindset than before.
The music legend writes that the incident occurred when she was just 17 years old and still very young.
At the time, she was in a relationship with Sonny Bono, whom she later married on October 27, 1964.
On this very quiet afternoon, while Sonny was busy working and away, Cher stayed at a friend’s apartment.
The overnight stay at her old friend’s house became very frightening for her, leaving her shocked and with a deep impact on her life that she had never talked about before.
In her book, Cher explained that she woke up feeling unsafe and confused as she quickly ran to her friend for help.
“A few hours later I realized that someone was lying next to me with their hand in my underwear. Half asleep, I thought I was home and suddenly remembered that I wasn’t there.
It was dark and all I could see was the silhouette of a man. Frozen, I stood there, heart racing, until he walked away a little bit.”
Her friend reacted immediately and made sure Cher was protected. However, the fear of that night stayed with her long after it was over.
