The Prince and Princess of Wales expressed their deepest condolences following the tragedy that shook the Canadian public and cost them the loss of nine lives.
Prince William and Princess Catherine issued a statement via Instagram on Wednesday, February 11 that began: “We stand with all Canadians following this morning’s terrible tragedy.”
The royal couple continued: “Our hearts go out to the entire Tumbler Ridge community and we extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends affected by this devastating loss.”
The shooting incident at Tumbler Ridge High School located in the British Columbia community resulted in the loss of nine lives and more injuries, but the situation was prevented from getting worse thanks to the immediate courage shown by first responders.
The future King and Queen also praised the brave first responders, writing, “We are so grateful for the courage shown by the students, staff and first responders who acted selflessly in the face of such violence. W & C.”
While investigations are still ongoing, police found the gunman dead at the crime scene, after emergency services arrived two minutes after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police received reports of an active shooter attacking the school.
For now, the high school and a neighboring elementary school building remain closed.
This comes after King Charles shared a statement expressing similar sentiments for the victims and praising the brave survivors.
