- LG releases update 33.30.92 for LG C5 and G5 OLED TVs
- Brightness changes in various Dolby Vision modes, but no change in Filmmaker mode
- Many people notice changes in G5, but not so many people in C5
LG has released an update aimed at making Dolby Vision HDR much brighter in several modes on the LG C5 and LG G5 OLED TVs, and it seems many owners are delighted with the results so far.
Some owners on Reddit are sharing before and after images, and the brightness difference is dramatic: The after images are much brighter and more vibrant, trading deeper shadows for a brighter hue.

A changelog shared by user Stanley083 says the updates are as follows:
Models: LG C5 and G5 OLED (2025 models)
This update is a specific image quality fix that addresses user complaints regarding Dolby Vision brightness.
Important changes
Dolby Vision Brightness Fix: The primary goal of this update is to resolve an issue where Dolby Vision content (specifically in “Cinema Home” mode) would appear noticeably darker than standard HDR10 content.
Specific modes: Brightness boost has been applied to the following Dolby Vision picture modes:
- Home cinema
- vivid
- Game
- Standard
Filmmaker Mode unchanged: LG has stated that Filmmaker Mode remains intact to preserve the “creator’s intent” and reference standard, meaning it will continue to appear darker than the updated modes.
Context and user findings
• The Problem: Prior to this update, many C5/G5 owners reported that the “out-of-the-box” Dolby Vision experience was too dim, particularly the “Cinema Home” preset, which is typically designed for brighter viewing.
So far, the changes appear to be a great success. “Thank you LG for finally solving the darkness,” Uluquat posted on the r/LGOLED subreddit.
Thanks LG for finally fixing the darkness with firmware update 33.30.95 from r/LGOLED
But there’s one thing to note: all the images and high praise we’re seeing so far come from LG G5 users, and although the update is also for the C5, there doesn’t seem to be as much discussion about it.
We’re reviewing our LG G5 and LG C5 units right now to test the differences in both TVs ourselves, and we’ll follow up with what we find.
Who will benefit from LG’s update and who probably won’t?
The people most likely to benefit are those of us who watch TV in fairly bright rooms, where the eye can never fully adjust to a super dark image and where reflections and ambient light tend to flatten and darken shadows further, meaning that nuanced dark areas become one big black mass.
One of the most detailed posts is from Redditor International-Oil377, who says that “Cinema Home is the most interesting one that received an update. It’s not as bright as vivid, but a little brighter than FMM.” [Filmmaker Mode]. The highlights stand out less than FMM, but are still impactful in many cases.”
However, his post suggests that the update won’t be of much interest to serious home theater owners, as it doesn’t change Filmmaker mode, but “not everyone has a dark theater room in their basement, so I can see a lot of people appreciating this change.”
So if you’ve been struggling with your LG OLED 2025’s visibility in Dolby Vision modes, this could be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for, although there’s no word yet on a similar increase for the LG B5, which would arguably benefit even more as it’s a dimmer TV to begin with.
We’re in the process of setting up our C5 and G5 TVs to test the update and see exactly how much of a difference it makes, but on Reddit it’s pretty significant and many are appreciative of it.
