Anthropic has boldly offered to cover the electricity price hike caused by its own data centers, with CEO Dario Amodei saying the power to drive its AI models should rest with the company, not consumers.
This, of course, follows a recent request by President Trump for Big Tech companies to “pay their own way” and not allow American citizens to face higher electricity bills as a result of their operations.
In January 2026, when Trump posted this request on Truth Social, he confirmed that Microsoft had already shown its willingness to comply with this, promising “major changes.”
Anthropic to help US citizens reduce their energy bills
While it may be nearly impossible to quantify the exact effects Anthropic has on local and national grids, Amodei offered some suggestions: It would pay 100% of the grid upgrade costs needed to connect its data centers and, where possible, purchase new power generation to match its consumption.
When that is not possible, Anthropic offers to cover estimated price increases driven by demand.
In addition to covering those additional bills, the company also covered its commitment to improving energy efficiency in the first place, including the implementation of liquid cooling.
Anthropic also emphasized that it has been a “responsible neighbor” and is ready to create “hundreds of permanent jobs and thousands of construction jobs” based on its existing projects.
“These commitments are the beginning of our efforts to address the impact of data centers on energy costs,” the post reads.
“We look forward to working with communities, local governments and the Administration to get this right,” Amodei added (via The Registry).
