A petition seeking legal action against Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been filed in the Islamabad District and Sessions Court for the violence that occurred during the November 26 protest.
The petition, filed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was heard by Session Judge Azam Khan, Express News reported.
PTI president Barrister Gohar appeared as a complainant in the case.
PTI lawyer Khurram Khosa urged the court to rectify the list of names as Barrister Gohar’s name was included in the complaint. The attorney also requested that the names of two deceased victims be added to the list.
The petition highlights violent clashes during the protest, which resulted in injuries and fatalities, including the death of two people. The petition also includes post-mortem reports and other relevant documents to support the case.
The court adjourned the hearing and rescheduled it for January 29.
Speaking to the media outside a sessions court in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said that all possible cases had been filed against the former prime minister, Express News reported.
He added that democracy and political stability in the country require the immediate release of political detainees.
Referring to a private complaint hearing before the court, he explained that the PTI had submitted data on its 12 martyrs and 49 injured workers, and two more victims were reported among the injured.
He emphasized that the legal process will continue and the party remains committed to seeking justice for its members.
Advocate Gohar revealed that the third round of negotiations with the government is planned, during which the PTI will submit its demands in writing. He expressed optimism about achieving positive results if the government approaches the talks with sincerity and goodwill.
“Democracy thrives through dialogue, not discord,” said Attorney Gohar. He stressed the importance of genuine commitment to resolve current political problems and restore stability.
Advocate Gohar reiterated his confidence in the negotiation process and said: “We hope that the talks will conclude soon with good news for the nation.”
