PESHAWAR:
In a move to enhance student safety and prevent potential misconduct, the Department of Political Science at Islamia College Peshawar has issued detailed guidelines prohibiting female students from any form of direct contact with male faculty members.
According to an official notice issued by the department, all interactions between female students and teachers have been completely prohibited. Female students are strictly prohibited from entering the male teachers’ offices, while male students are also prohibited from entering the female teachers’ offices.
To address academic and other concerns, the university has appointed male and female assistant professors as coordinators for male and female students, respectively. Any student requiring a meeting with a faculty member of the opposite sex must obtain prior No Objection Certificate (NOC) approval.
The notice further states that exam-related issues or complaints should be sent to the Student Grievance Committee for resolution, bypassing direct interactions with teachers.
This directive aligns with broader provincial efforts by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department to curb harassment risks in public universities, including mandating female faculty coordinators for female students’ complaints and regular awareness seminars on protection laws.
The guidelines, which take effect immediately, aim to foster a transparent, safe and accountable academic environment at the historic institution.
