LAHORE:

Prominent politician and former federal minister Muhammad Ali Durrani has said that President Asif Ali Zardari could play a role in facilitating the transfer of former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In an interview, Durrani said relations between the government and the PTI were currently operating on a “quid pro quo” basis, with former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz president Nawaz Sharif playing an active role in facilitating dialogue.

Durrani added that senior PML-N politician Rana Sanaullah is also contributing positively to the reconciliation efforts on behalf of Nawaz Sharif. He highlighted that Nawaz Sharif had been engaging opposition forces to push the process forward.

“President Zardari has been quietly working for political reconciliation, while Nawaz Sharif is engaging the opposition to push the process forward,” he said, referring to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s remarks on the death anniversary of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
