Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni came to the defense of wide receiver AJ Brown over criticism of him for reading a book on the sideline during Sunday’s playoff game.
Brown was seen reading “Inner Excellence” by Jim Murphy and explained that after the game he always reads the book to help him mentally focus. Sunday night against the Green Bay Packers was just the first time cameras caught him doing it.

Sirianni blasted critics in an interview on Sports Radio 94 WIP.
“I’m definitely fine with that,” he said Tuesday. “The crazy thing is, he’s been reading this book on the bench for a long time. It just so happened that a camera saw him this week. Some guys pray in the middle, some guys mediate in the middle. AJ reads in the middle.
“Whatever these guys need to do to focus in a place where they can play with great detail and great effort, I fully encourage them to do it. I love AJ. He’s a great teammate. I saw Jahan Dotson say something defending to AJ And I thought that was fantastic too. Another example of our teammates standing up for each other.

“We don’t do any research and come to the conclusion of, ‘Oh, he must be unhappy.’ To me, that’s vague. Everyone needs to figure out why he’s doing it before judging the man, AJ Brown is a great, great, great person. The man, AJ Brown, is the best receiver. I will say it without hesitation: the best receiver this city has ever seen… It’s hard for me to see when people approach him without doing the proper research on who he is. the man and what he is doing in the first place.”
Brown’s reading escapade helped the book jump to the top of Amazon’s best-seller list overnight. All of that on top of the win over the Packers.
The Eagles could probably use a little more Brown on the field. He had one reception for 10 yards in the game. He hasn’t had more than five receptions since December 22.
Philadelphia will host the Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round game on Sunday.
