- The TEAC TN 400BT X/TB now comes in turquoise
- This premium turntable is $629.99, available this spring
- Designed for Bluetooth, but also has wired output
Saying the word “Bluetooth” in front of an audiophile may be like saying “Macbeth” in front of actors or “lager” in front of a beer snob, but the TEAC TN 400BT X/TB aims to be the best turntable for people who want to listen wirelessly.
This is a new version of the 2024 TB 400BT X, eschewing that model’s wooden construction for an original turquoise design. As someone who is used to testing all-black models like the Sony PS-LX310BT, it looks attractive.
TEAC’s new turntable will go on sale in the spring and will cost $629.99. It’s advertised as a limited edition release, which will only be on sale for a short time, so keep an eye on your local hifi store if you’re interested.
Bluetooth for a blue turntable
As the ‘BT’ in the name indicates, this is a model designed for Bluetooth listening and TEAC has packed it with useful features. You can stream via aptX Adaptive, aptX, and SBC, so you won’t lose as much data over the air as with some alternatives.
There is a built-in Phono EQ preamp and the arm takes an AT95E cartridge. All the amenities are in place with a counterweight, anti-skate mechanism and boom lift.
You don’t have to rely on wireless streaming either, with RCA connectors for line and phono outputs. The platter is made of aluminum, moves with a flat rubber belt and can play at three speeds: 33 1/3, 45 and 78 RPM.
TEAC’s Hi-Fi technology isn’t always affordable, like its $2,300 amplifier that will power your speakers, so the $600 price tag for a turntable seems relatively affordable in comparison. However, it’s not as cheap as the $500 Pro-ject Debut Carbon Evo, which we consider our current favorite turntable.
