KARACHI:

The constitutional bench of the Sindh High Court on Tuesday disposed of a petition filed by former K-Electric CEO Monis Alvi against a decision of the Provincial Ombudsman on workplace harassment, after the petitioner withdrew his plea.

The court also approved his request for return of Rs 2.5 million deposited as fine. The court was hearing a petition challenging the order of the Ombudsman, which had found Alvi guilty of workplace harassment and ordered his removal from the post of CEO along with imposition of a fine of Rs 2.5 million.

Advocate Abid Zuberi and Advocate Ayan Memon appeared before the court on behalf of the petitioner. They informed the court that the Governor of Sindh had accepted an appeal against the Ombudsman’s decision and set aside the impugned order. Copies of the governor’s decision were recorded.

After examining the documents, the court ordered the return to the petitioner of the amount deposited in pursuance of the above order. The court subsequently ruled the petition withdrawn.

The provincial Ombudsman had issued the order on a complaint filed by Mehrean, finding Alvi guilty of workplace harassment and granting him the sentence along with his removal from office.
