Rs12b DG Khan sewerage project under review

DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A Rs 12,000-crore sewerage project aimed at reforming the urban sanitation system in Dera Ghazi Khan was reviewed during a visit by Punjab Secretary Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Noorul Amin Mengal on Tuesday.

Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid, the secretary inspected the ongoing works under the Punjab Development Programme, where officials said the Rs 12 billion initiative is designed to provide a modern, sustainable and efficient sewage network to the city.

WASA Director General Malik Jawad Kaleem briefed the officials about the technical progress of the project. Secretary Mengal also visited two RCC pipe manufacturing factories set up for the scheme. One facility produces 72-inch diameter pipe, while the other makes pipe between 12 and 42 inches in diameter.

Officials reviewed production processes, quality assurance measures and construction speed, emphasizing strict compliance with technical standards. At Masoomabad Road, officials demonstrated the laying and joining of a 24-inch pipeline and the ongoing sewer line installations.

The secretary expressed satisfaction with the quality of work, technical compliance and safety measures adopted at the site. He termed the project as a milestone in improving urban infrastructure and civic services in Dera Ghazi Khan, and emphasized the importance of timely completion and maintaining high construction standards.

Deputy Commissioner Khalid said there are strict monitoring mechanisms to ensure the quality and timely delivery of the project, adding that the improved sewage system would improve urban living conditions and promote public health.

Officials said the project is expected to significantly improve wastewater management and lay the foundation for a cleaner, more resilient urban environment.
