Windows 11 boot issues may be fixed with KB5077181 update: Microsoft

Unfortunately, Windows 11 users have been experiencing boot issues, but now is the time they can breathe a sigh of relief as Microsoft has confirmed that the recently released KB5077181 update resolves the frustrating UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME errors.

The good news follows a series of problematic updates that have affected the operating system since early 2026.

Windows 11 boot issue explained

Users faced error messages while turning on their Windows 11 PCs that said: “Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart. You can restart.”

According to Microsoft, this issue was related to security updates installed in December 2025 and affected a limited number of commercial systems running versions 25H2 and 24H2 of Windows 11.

According to a private notice shared by Ask Woody’s Susan Bradley, Microsoft stated: “This issue is fully resolved in the Windows security update released on February 10, 2026.”

What’s interesting is that Microsoft did not make a public announcement about this solution, which points to a questionable communication strategy.

This approach is likely due to the fact that only business users were significantly affected, and the company may have chosen to avoid drawing attention to an issue that did not affect most personal users.

The measure appears to be aimed at minimizing alarmism or reducing the negative sentiment that has been generated around Windows 11 updates.

As users seem eager for more updates, resolving these boot issues is nothing short of a giant leap on Microsoft’s part to restore confidence in its operating system.
