Daniel Radcliffe spoke about the next harry potter TV series, asking fans to avoid pressuring young actors to take on iconic roles.
The 36-year-old star, who famously played the role of ‘The Boy Who Lived’ in the hit film franchise, urged fans of the series during his appearance on ScreenRant Tuesday, February 17 so as not to compare new cast.
He said he doesn’t want to be a “strange spectral ghost” in the children’s lives as they begin their journey in the magical world.
Radcliffe expressed his confidence in Dominic McLaughlin, who will play Harry in the reboot, saying, “I’m sure Dominic will be better than me” and encouraging audiences to let the new stars “move on.”
Reflecting on his own childhood fame, he explained: “In some ways, I think becoming famous when you’re young is almost easier because then all the weird things about fame are so intertwined with your life that they don’t feel weird when you come across them.”
He also addressed the protective instincts fans expressed when the new cast was announced: “There was a whole thing when these kids were cast like, ‘We have to take care of them.’ If you mean that, one of the things people can do is not ask about us.”
Radcliffe added: “I’d like to not be strange, spectral ghosts in these kids’ lives and just let them move on. It’ll be something new and different and they’ll be better than me.”
Dominic McLaughlin will take on the role of Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley in HBO’s highly anticipated adaptation of JK Rowling’s saga.
The series boasts an impressive line-up, including Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Nick Frost as Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall and Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape.
Filming recently resumed at the historic Ashridge Estate in Hertfordshire, a location previously used for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
