As if Lindsey Vonn hadn’t been through enough, the skier announced Wednesday that her beloved dog, Leo, had died.
Leo died a day after Vonn crashed while running at the Milan Cortina Olympics, which has already resulted in four surgeries, and more likely.
“02/09/2026 Leo passed away. The day after my accident I said goodbye to my oldest son as he lay in my hospital bed,” Vonn said. “It has been some of the hardest days of my life and I still haven’t begun to process his passing…I will always love you Leo.”

Vonn said Leo had been suffering from lung cancer and that she had been his owner for 13 years.
Vonn suffered immense Olympic heartbreak on February 8 when he broke his leg on a hard accident in the women’s alpine skiing event at the beginning of the Cortina Games in Milan 2026. She tried to overcome a torn ACL to get on the podium, but the latest injury set her back.
He suffered the ACL injury during practice just a week before the Games.

“I haven’t stood up in over a week…I’ve been in a hospital bed motionless since my run. And while I still can’t stand up, being back home feels amazing,” she wrote in a post on X earlier this week.
“Thank you very much to everyone in Italy for taking good care of me.”
Vonn, 41, had to be airlifted from an Italian mountain in a terrifying scene during her downhill competition.
Before the Games began, many wondered how Vonn would ski his anterior cruciate ligament rupturebut she was determined to try to get a medal in her star event. His races on Friday and Saturday went well, but he lost control within seconds of running and things got very serious afterward.
